Today in class we passed out the To Kill a Mockingbird reading schedule and theme tracker, as well as the Hare Krishna temple field trip form.  You will need to get copies of these from us.

Additionally, we read through the first chapter of To Kill a Mockingbird.  You need to finish the second chapter over the weekend.

We also continued notes on the Bhagavad Gita.  You have several quizzes on Canvas to check understanding of recent class activities, so be sure to check in on Canvas and get those assignments done.

Today in class we introduced the premise for The Hiding Place project (a museum exhibit that you will design, build, and showcase to the community).  We also began reading chapter one.  You need to finish chapter one for Monday.

We also continued telling the story of how Virginia was established as a colony.  You will want to get these notes from a neighbor or from us so you aren’t behind.  There is a quiz on this information coming on Canvas soon!

Today in class we continued our discussion of the Bhagavad Gita and took notes on the next few pages of your reading.  You will need to get these notes from us or from a neighbor.

We also started reading To Kill a Mockingbird.  We passed out the theme tracker and reading schedule, both of which you will need to pick up so you know what reading to do.

For Monday, you need to finish reading chapters 1-2, make sure you’ve done your weekly report and Caught Ya quizzes, and be prepared for a reading quiz on Canvas.

Bellwork: Who are some of your heroes?  What have they done that makes them a hero to you? (Consider real and fictional heroes.)

Bellwork was turned in today.

Today in class we continued our unit on the Hero’s Journey by reading the first chapter of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, as well as adding to our chart on the Hero’s Journey with step number three.  We also started watching Star Wars to identify the steps of the hero’s journey in its story.  There is a quiz on this information that will be posted on Canvas.  If you were absent, you will need to make sure you have the notes from us or from a friend to take this quiz.

We also continued work on our word projects by looking up how your chosen word is used in pop culture now.  Talk to a friend or Mr. Duffin for information on how to go about finding this information and how it will be useful for your paper.

What do you know about World War II?  What do you wonder about World War II? What do you want to learn about World War II?

Today we had a lesson on the historical background to World War II for our unit on The Hiding Place.  You will need to get these notes from a friend or from us so that you can take a notes quiz on this information.

We also had our first introductions to the founding of Virginia as the first colony in the US.  You will also need to get these notes.  It was a heavy notes day in class! Come talk to us if you need help finding someone who takes good notes.

Today in class we went over the Frankenstein/Book of the Dead test that is posted on Canvas.  The test is posted in three different sections on Canvas (two short answer and one long essay).  The instructions and deadlines are posted on the assignments.  If you have any questions, let us know.

In addition to some test work time, we also started to go over some of the history of the Bhagavad Gita.  You will need to pick up a copy of the reading and get notes on the vocabulary we went over–it will help give you context for your reading of the Bhagavad Gita.

Today in class we started by reviewing some of the principles of John Locke with our houses, determining how we would solve problems if we were on a desert island with only the people in our houses.

After that, we worked on brainstorming and outlining the essay for the Animal Farm/John Locke test. We will post pictures of the notes things that we did on Canvas so that you can use those resources.

Assignments: 

1. You need your copy of The Hiding Place by Monday. 

2. You need to do your weekly report. 

3. Your Animal Farm/John Locke test is due on Wednesday of next week.
