STADIUM CHAIRS FUNDRAISER

The Merit Humanities Seminar is privileged to be involved with the stadium chairs at LaVell Edwards Stadium for BYU football games and the Stadium of Fire.  These events earn our classroom thousands of dollars a year and make possible many of the resources we have in class including much of the technology we enjoy.  We rely on and are grateful for the students, parents and friends of the school that volunteer to make this happen.

Below is the information about participating the fundraisers.

STADIUM INSTALLS AND UNINSTALLS

Every year prior to the football season we install the seats that have been leased for the entire season.  This is usually done the Saturday before the first home game.  We deliver and tie down all the chairs for that season.  Here is what you should know:

  • Come dressed comfortably.  You will be working and climbing stairs all over the stadium.
  • Wear sunscreen if needed.
  • Drinks and either lunch or dinner will be provided.
  • These are the days we need the most volunteers and can use anyone who is willing and responsible enough to work.
  • It is requested that you contact Mr. Duffin to let him know you are coming (using the form below), but it is not necessary.  You can just show up.
  • Enter the stadium on the Northeast corner (by the church and the credit union).

2012 Install will happen on Saturday, August 25th from 1:00 p.m. until around 6:00 or 7:00 p.m.  Use the form at the bottom of the page to report that you can come.

Every year after the season we remove all the chairs that had been leased during the season.  Here is what you should know:

  • Come dressed warm and comfortably.  You will be working and climbing stairs all over the stadium.
  • Although we do have a heated room we can retreat to and eat in, we will be working out in the stadium the entire time.  Dress warmly.

2012 Uninstall will happen on Saturday, November 17th we will likely start around 10:00 a.m. planning to be done by 5:00 p.m.  Exact times to come.  Use the form at the bottom of the page to report that you can come.

Football Games

We work every home BYU football game renting stadium chairs to fans.  This is a great opportunity to serve and get some benefit.  You get to watch the game for free and get money for food while you’re there.  Here’s what you should know.

  • Arrive 2 1/2 hours before game time.
  • Enter on the Northwest corner gate by giving the security team your name.
  • You will be working outside so dress accordingly to be in the weather.
  • You will be working renting chairs from until about 10 or so minutes into the game.
  • After that you will be given food money and you’re free to watch the game or stay in our climate controlled room to study, talk or rest.
  • At the end of the game we gather and stack the chairs that were rented.  This rarely (if ever) takes more than an hour.
  • You must be on the list to work the game.  To get on the list you must 1) fill out and submit the form below and then 2) wait to get a confirmation email from Mr. Duffin confirming you are on the list to work.
  • There are a limited number of slots to work each game.  Preference will be given to individuals who have experience working stadium chair events.
  • Individuals not willing to work or who do not show up without finding a replacement will not be asked to work again.
  • Volunteers should be at least 11 years of age and willing and able to work without constant supervision.
